Due to the reorganisation of the league system by the Scottish Junior
Football Association(SJFA) there are now only three regions concerning junior
football in Scotland, each region organise's their own district league and cup competitions. The SJFA used to be split into six regions, but in 2002 they took the decision to reform into three regions to try and ensure more games between the top clubs and hence increase their revenues. The Western Region was formed by the amalgamation of the old Central and Ayrshire regions. The league set-up in the region is a combined top division, officially known as the SJFA West Region Premier Division, with the SJFA West Region First Division below. The District Leagues of Ayrshire and Central below the Superleague correspond to the former two regions that combined to create the Western region. There is a Central District League (with two divisions) and an Ayrshire District League. The Eastern Region league setup is a football competition comprising 63 clubs spread across three tiers of leagues: a Super League and a Premier League comprising of the best clubs from the old Lothian, Tayside and Fife Divisions. Below that are the three Regional Divisions forming the third tier: North, Central and East Divisions The Northern Region largely remains unchanged, its area covers Grampian, Moray as well as part of the Highlands. It consists of three divisions: The North Premier League, North Division One and North Division Two. |
